Kitchen Appliances
Kitchens are the heart of the home. They can also use the most energy out of another room in your house. From your refrigerator to coffee maker, chances are your kitchen is full of appliances. Consider swapping out your old kitchen appliances with newer energy efficient models and watch your energy bill dwindle.
- Refrigerator – Your fridge can use up to 15 percent of your total energy in your home. Look for a model that has an Energy Start label, which will guarantee that it meets government energy standards. Keep in mind that not all Energy Star models are created equal, so make sure to go online to see which option is best.
- Oven – There are three size options when it comes to choosing an oven, and the smaller the size, the more energy you can save. If you only have the need for a lot of oven space on rare occasions, consider investing in two smaller ovens instead of one larger one. Self-cleaning ovens will not only make it easier to keep them clean, but they also tend to be better insulated.
- Dishwashers – Just like your fridge, look for a dishwasher that is Energy Star Rated, which will use at least 10 percent less energy than other options. Also look for a dishwasher that has multiple options, including “no heat drying” and “energy saver” to cut down on even more energy.
- Microwave – using your microwave for small meals can use much less energy than heating up food in your oven. Choosing a microwave that does not have a glass window can help to reduce the microwave emission when you use the appliance.
